I've heard a lot of speculation that Dumbledore will get the axe in this next book (which makes me want to cry). If he does, do we keep the name??? I think yes - although before every DA meeting we have a moment of silence.
Goodness, I'm talking like he's dead already - hopefully all of this is completely unfounded and we get to keep our Dumbledore through book 7.

Re: Preparing for the worst
Tue, June 14, 2005 - 11:56 AMOF COURSE we keep the name! Is it DD who said something like the dead are always with us in our hearts? So it would just be rude to change it.
Even if he DOES pass on, I refuse to believe he wouldn't hang around Hogwart's as a ghost. He might be more fun that way ... since he's no longer the working headmaster, maybe he can divulge more secrets to Harry! Or Hermoine, if Harry keeps up this whole annoying dark teen angst thing.
Besides, we have a song now, dang it!

Re: Preparing for the worst
Tue, June 14, 2005 - 3:32 PMWho on earth would or could replace Dumbledore as headmaster? In HBP is there going to be a major loss for good before the final triumph in book 7?
Anyway, if it is true that he dies, something of him will continue in his portraits. -

Tue, June 14, 2005 - 4:25 PMHey! Maybe this is where the "...as long as they don't take me off the chocolate frogs cards" line comes into play. Maybe he'll still be able to pass on his wisdom through trading cards! -

Re: Preparing for the worst
Tue, June 14, 2005 - 8:51 PMhmmmm... new headmasters.... I'd bet McG would be the interim headmaster (as she has been before) but I bet they'd introduce a new wizard to be the headmaster.... or maybe not, it would seem kinda late in the series to suddenly pop in a whole new character -

Re: Preparing for the worst
Tue, June 14, 2005 - 8:53 PMThat is a toughy cuz, so far, JKR has written McGon as a strong woman but more of a follower than a leader. I'm not sure I could see her as Headmaster.

Re: Preparing for the worst
Wed, June 15, 2005 - 10:20 AMDD is not going to die people - calm down! The tabloid that reported the rumor is the same tabloid that was busted TRYING to buy the illegal copy of HBP. Clearly that means they had not yet acquired a copy, so their reported knowledge of DD's demise is highly sketchy. -

Re: Preparing for the worst
Wed, June 15, 2005 - 11:17 AMLook, people, calm down. It's war, so we know people ARE going to die. And there are only two books left, so we know it's going to happen to someone. Probably several "someones".
And when it does, we will all be there for each other. That is what we're here for, right? -

Wed, June 15, 2005 - 11:27 AMMcG is deputy Headmistress, so she would become Headmaster-

AND - I refuse to calm down, it's just not a part of my programming ;) besides, guys think it's sexy when I hyperventilate into my brown paper bag whenever i talk about Harry Potter.
Ok, so maybe they said 'weird' instead of 'sexy' but they're almost the same thing, right????? -

Sun, June 19, 2005 - 7:35 PMI was at a sports bar for a college world series game this weekend and I was talking to some people who I know socially (but not very well) about HP and the new book and my general obsession. Surprisingly, they thought I was strange!! -

Sun, June 19, 2005 - 7:49 PMI think that with people like that, they're just jealous that we have such passion for something. They have such little passion in their lives they secretly hate us for ours.
At least, that's my theory to explain why I'm a creatively passionate person and not just a geek :) -

Re: Preparing for the worst
Sun, June 19, 2005 - 10:22 PMI have that experience often too. I think a lot of people still view these as childrens books... Sad.... As they are sooooo not really! :-) -
-
Re: Preparing for the worst
Sun, June 19, 2005 - 10:30 PMI agree with you to Steven. People think it is a kids book, and at the time when it first came out I could agree with them but starting with book 3 and mainly book 4 it became all grown up because of what happens in Book 4. J.K. Rowling has done a superb job of changing it into not only a Kids book but also a Adult book as well. -

Re: Preparing for the worst
Sun, June 19, 2005 - 10:52 PMWell said, Jason :) I'll admit I stayed away from them at the begining too. I also thought when the first two came out that they were just over-hyped kids books. Then I read POA and totally changed my mind... And all the "hype" was well founded! -
-
Re: Preparing for the worst
Mon, June 20, 2005 - 10:32 AMYep, I agree with you Steve & Jason. I originally thought they were children's book and was disinterested. Then the first movie came out and a classmate of mine was raving about it. I decided to check it out and I was hooked. I rushed out and bought all 4 books that were published at the time. And its very true, they evolve in book 3 and the evolution is completed in book 4. If the series was all on the level of SS and COS, they would be children's books. Brilliant, clever children's books, but children's books nonetheless. But like Jason said, in book 3 the caterpillar cocoons and by book 4 we have a beautiful adult series. -

Re: Preparing for the worst
Mon, June 20, 2005 - 2:47 PMI'll just join the chorus and say I had the same experience. It wasn't until after book 4 and just before the first movie that I got hooked on HP and for the first couple read-throughs for me I couldn't even bear to take the books out of my home for fear someone would see me reading them and label me immature. lol!
But book 5 came out the day I left on a plane trip and nearly *every single* adult on the flight was reading a thick blue-covered book. Hah! I have no worries about talking HP now after seeing that! -
-
Re: Preparing for the worst
Mon, June 20, 2005 - 3:36 PMReally? All the adults on the plane were reading it? That is so heart warming! -
-
Re: Preparing for the worst
Mon, June 20, 2005 - 3:40 PMIt was oddly bizarre to see! I'd look up every now and then I just see a sea of blue covers. The airport bookstore opened while I was there and there was actually a long line of people waiting to buy it! The poor clerk hadn't even opened the boxes yet!

Additionally, in the first chapter of the first book SS, the muggle news reports people were celebrating bonfire night early. However, it was that the magical community was celebrating the triumph of HP over Voldemort.
